Flavio Sala's Biography

Born in Bojano (CB - Italy) in 1983, begun his classical guitar study when he was eight years old, immediately demonstrating a strong attitude towards music.

In 1994 he entered the "Lorenzo Perosi" Conservatory in Campobasso, where he attended for eight years the course held by Pasqualino Garzia (“Gold Guitar” for Teaching at the IX Conference of Alessandria, student of such teachers as Benedetto di Ponio, Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, Mario Gangi, Alirio Diaz e Andrés Segovia) for eight years, at the end of which he graduated with full marks, first-class degree and honourable mention.

Since 1998 he had been attending the International Master Classes of "Accademia Chigiana di Siena", held by Oscar Ghiglia, there obtaining every year the diploma for merit, the grant of the Foundation and the "Emma Contestabile" grant arranged for the best students. Encouraging and inspiring have been his meetings with Alirio Diaz and Paco de Lucia.

In 2001, after he attended successfully at various national and international contest, Flavio Sala won the XXVI edition of the "Gargnano international Competition".

With an unanimous vote, he won the First Prize of the prestigious Classical Guitar Competition "Michele Pittaluga" - Premio Città di Alessandria. Invited to play at the “ San Francisco International Guitar Competition 2004”, he won the Audience First Prize.

He has held many concerts in Italy, Spain, Austria, Russia (Hermitage Theatre) and in the United States of America, as a soloist and with some orchestras (Turin Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Milano Classica, State Hermitage Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica del Friuli-Venezia-Giulia), always receiving unanimous approval by critics and public.

He was also given the honorary title of EXCELSIUS MUSIXCAE ET NUNTIUS PACIS in occasion of the EuroFestival Emerging Performers, held in Rome with the support of the European Parlament, Unipax and Santa Cecilia National Academy.

The quarterly guitar magazine SEICORDE honoured Flavio Sala with the cover of their magazine n°77 October- December 2003.
