Marco Socias's Biography

Marco Socias was born in Málaga, Spain, in a family of musicians. He started his guitar studies there. He continued them at the Cologne Musikhochscule in Germany. Some of the most significant persons who have influenced him are Carmen Gallardo, Antonio Company, José Tomás, José Miguel Moreno, and David Russell.

At the age of 21 Socías was the youngest guitar professor in Spain. He has been extremely successful in various international competitions. Marco Socias has created an international career that spans the halls of the most important music centers of the world. He frequently performs with chamber orchestras and also often performs as a soloist for orchestras.

He has six recordings to date and has performed with orchestras throughout Europe notably under the direction of Leo Brouwer. His recording of music by Joaquin Rodrigo was greatly praised by the composer himself and his next recording will include music dedicated to him by Carlo Domeniconi. Some of his recordings include: Giuliani’s guitar concerto Op.30, ”Concerto Mediterraneo” by Carlo Domeniconi, an album with Catalan music, a selection of pieces by Joaquín Rodrigo, ”Álbum de Colien” containing contemporary music from Spain and Portugal, and Spanish songs with soprano Juanita Lascarro. His most recent recordings include solo guitar works by Joaquín Rodrigo, ”Concierto de Aranjuez”, and ”Fantasía para un Gentilhombre”. Italian composer Carlo Domeniconi has written Marco Socías the pieces ”Incontro”, ”Sonata, quasi una sinfonia”, and his guitar concerto number 13.

Socías lives in Málaga and teaches at Centro Superior de Música in San Sebastián.
