Lorenzo Micheli's Biography
Lorenzo Micheli was born in Italy in 1975. Having studied with Paola Coppi, Frédéric Zigante, and Oscar Ghiglia, Micheli is a graduate of both the Conservatory of Trieste and the Musik-Akademie of Basel, Switzerland. Lorenzo Micheli burst onto the international guitar scene in 1999 when he won the Guitar Foundation of America’s annual competition in Charleston, South Carolina. Since then he has taken up a busy concert career throughout the world, performing regularly — both as a soloist and with orchestra — all over Europe (Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Spain, Austria, Ireland, Germany, the UK, France, Croatia, Finland, Turkey, Norway, Poland, Slovenia), in over a hundred cities in the US and Canada, as well as in Africa and Latin America. Lorenzo Micheli has recorded numerous works of the guitar repertoire, including the music of Dionisio Aguado (Stradivarius), a selection of guitar works by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (Naxos), the Three Quartets, op. 19, by François de Fossa with Matteo Mela and the members of the Parma String Trio (Stradivarius), the complete works for solo guitar by Miguel Llobet (Naxos), the complete guitar Concertos by Castelnuovo-Tedesco (Brilliant), Complete Antoine de Lhoyer Duos with Matteo Mela as well as a live video recorded at Texas Tech University (Mel Bay). He gives master classes at universities and music festivals throughout North America and Europe, and he has made recordings for radio and TV in three continents. As a researcher and scholar, he has written articles and contributions for a number of music journals, including “Il Fronimo”, “Classical Guitar” and “Guitar Forum”, and he has rediscovered, edited and published works by such composers as Miguel Llobet and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. As years go by, he is more and more involved in chamber music projects in duo with Matteo Mela (guitar). The Soundboard magazine has written about Lorenzo & Matteo’s duo: “I had not expected their duo playing to be as fabulous as it was. Their musical ideas sound like no other duo.” Also, Lorenzo extensively performs and records with friends Ivan Rabaglia (violin), Enrico Bronzi (cello) and Massimo Lonardi (lute). Lorenzo Micheli currently resides in Milan maintaining an active touring, teaching, and recording schedule. He is professor at the Conservatory of Aosta in Italy. |
