Enno Voorhorst's Biography
Enno Voorhorst was born in 1962 in The Hague, Holland. Born in a family of musicians, he received his musical education from Hein Sanderink. He continued his studies with Hubert Käppel and with David Russell. In 1987 he was awarded the first prize at the 7th Guitar Competition in Hof, Germany, followed by a series of other prizes, such as the Dutch Guitarprize in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in 1992, as well as the first prize at the Seto-Ohashi Competition in Japan in the same year. Enno Voorhorst was invited to give concerts in El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Japan, Russia, Poland, Germany and many other countries. He played Roland Dyens’ Concierto Metis with the ‘I Fiamminghi’ string orchestra under Rudolf Werthen’s baton. His first CD, dedicated to the Paraguayan composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré (Sony 1994) received critical acclaim. Roberto Brocamonte, himself a pupil of Barrios wrote about this recording: “Enno’s tremolo is just perfect. In this rendering it seems as if ‘The Indian of Paraguay’ composed it especially for these wonderful hands”. Also, the Agustin Barrios specialist Rico Stover stated about this recording: “This CD played by Enno Voorhorst is the best I have heard thus far.” Naxos released worldwide the CD: ‘J.S. Bach, guitar transcriptions’ in 2002. A new Barrios CD will be released soon, also in the Naxos series. Enno Voorhorst currently resides in The Hague where he teaches at Royal Conservatory. |
